Global Health Track The Med-Peds Global Health Track was created to give residents interested in Global/Public Health an opportunity to receive formal training and exposure to Global and Public Health issues. Beginning in their 2nd year, the residents selected for the track will complete international electives once a year at approved sites and, as students with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (http://publichealth.med.miami.edu/), will complete coursework for a Global Health Certificate. The Global Health Certificate is a public health program designed to focus on the core principles of public health as well as introduce the student to issues in global health and disease.
Resident Scholarly Activity Program (RSAP): http://www.jhsmiami.org/workfiles/pdfs/RSAP.pdf) This 4 phase curriculum aims to improve the quality of research projects pursued by residents and to increase the number of projects submitted for publication in peer reviewed journals. As a Med-Peds Resident, the first phase of the curriculum starts in the first year with identification of a research mentor and development of project. The second phase beginning in the 2nd year is a series of lectures to the cover research basics such as preparing an IRB proposal and improving epidemiological and Biostatistical knowledge. The third phase of the curriculum continues with research in progress meetings, in the third year, to assure research milestones and the quality of each project. The last phase is a formal presentation of the research methods and findings in the fourth year of residency.
Procedural Competency Initiative: http://www.jhsmiami.org/workfiles/docs/Procedural_Competency_Initiative.doc) In conjunction with the UM/JMH Center for Patient Safety, the Internal Medicine Residency training program has been piloting a novel patient safety and educational initiative: the Procedure Team. This monthly rotation enlists 2nd and 3rd-year residents to participate in a 2 day instructional component, during which they learn invasive bedside procedures by a team of multi-disciplinary faculty in our UM-JMH Center for Patient Safety (http://anesthesiology.med.miami.edu/x356.xml). The residents then spend 4 weeks as the hospital Procedure Team under the supervision of the faculty of the Center for Patient Safety. |
